After the war, she moved to New York City and became an advocate for human rights and a leader in the Asian American civil rights movement. She was an active participant in the Black Panthers, the Nation of Islam and other groups. She was also a fierce advocate for Japanese American reparations, the end of the Vietnam War, and the independence of Puerto Rico. In addition to her activism, she was also a mother, a friend and a mentor to many. Her legacy continues to inspire future generations of activists to this day.
