Rebel With A Cause

In this episode of the Eric Hailar podcast, the story of a prominent leader in the Asian American civil rights movement, Yuri Kochiyama, is highlighted. Kochiyama was born in California in 1921 and was later held in internment camps during World War II. After the war, she moved to New York City and became an advocate for human rights and a leader in the Asian American civil rights movement. She was an active participant in the Black Panthers, the Nation of Islam and other groups. She was also a fierce advocate for Japanese American reparations, the end of the Vietnam War, and the independence of Puerto Rico. In addition to her activism, she was also a mother, a friend and a mentor to many. Her legacy continues to inspire future generations of activists to this day.
